How do you get most of your vitamins ?
Well if you are eating a proper balanced and healthy diet , the answer should be food. I for one never have and I don’t see that changing anytime soon, you might think differently.
As I have just outlined eating well means that there should be no need to pop a pill so to speak. You are also most likely to get better take up of beneficial minerals by getting them from a food rather than a pill.
Vitamin D in particular can be best got from just being out in the world, that’s a nice side effect of doing your exercise outside rather than in, just watch how much sun you are exposed to. Like everything in life to get the most benefit, don’t overdo it.
Vitamin B – 12 might the exception to the rule for Food v Pill debate, well at least if you are 50 +. Sometimes it has been shown that for some of this age group that take up of this particular vitamin can be lessened, if food is the only way that they get this particular vitamin.
Vitamin B -9 or Folic Acid as it is better known will have better take up into the body from eating foods with this particular food added to their ingredients. The best example and the easiest way of getting it is breakfast cereals, just no Fruit Loops or Frosted Flakes though – the healthy low sugar ones are best or just eat porridge, pretty much the best cereal choice add in some fruit, nuts and seeds to that and you are well on your way to eating more healthily. Well, there is a good chance that you will be pouring milk on your cereal and this is the best way for your body to absorb calcium too. Some milks now even have extra vitamins added on top of what you might get in standard full fat or skimmed milk.
Well, you are likely to get vitamins if you are a regular eater of fruit, any citrus fruit is naturally high in Vitamin C. Spinach and Kale are also a good source of vitamins and minerals for the body.
I hope that I have planted the seed for doing a little bit more research into foods that provide vitamins naturally to the body and they taste much nicer than just popping a bland tasting pill into your mouth too, don’t they !!
